a Useful Guide to PAINS

I am the victim of a sinister modulating illness that has been ongoing for at least 1 month. It has allowed me to experience a wide variety of pains, some of them novel, so thought I'd take this opportunity to compose a little list of the pains I have known, and the pains I am getting to know right this moment

abrasion of knee/elbow (occasionaly face)

an early common pain. All children find a sort of comfort in their mild burn throbs leading to playable scabs

splinters, hands, feet (feet is worse I think)

quite an upsetting pain, and frightening to the youngster, how the tiniest foreign object can cause such discomfort

stepping on a lego brick (a foot-based pain, but it is not unreasonable to imagine a shoulder blade-based lego brick pain, when rolling around the floor for whatever youthful reason)

previously mentioned here -- not particularly long-lasting, but it can sometimes leave a little imprint (which is not long-lasting either, perhaps a felt tip pen could render it more perpetual)

sore throat

tonsils are red, sometimes there are spots. This is when a youngster may learn how often the action of swallowing occurs. Like other head-area pains, can be hard to ignore, or dispel into an "ignorance bubble" of the mind-body
Some victims of this pain have their tonsils removed. I have heard rumours that this merely moves along what would have been a sore throat into the tummy, resulting in a

sore tummy

I have always thought of a specific tone of sore tummy as premonition of an afterlife full of pain, fear and, most awfully, a boredom in the very corpse core

incision/large gap wound

an elder class of the earlier abrasion-type pain, develops into a companionable low bruisey throb, conveys safety points

facial paralysis

one of the more worrying types, the pain itself comes later, when the locked muscles begin a radical and inescapable ACHE

testicular crunch

nothing much needs to be said about this pain. Nauseating, sometimes fatal, and humiliating, especially if it is the result of a failed attempt to dribble a basket-ball

. . . / some more recent pains

a piercing ache in the head, coupled with nausea

A migraine is similar perhaps. Try putting this in an "ignorance bubble" - it is not possible

a bulky sort of pain block under the ribs on the right side (the victim's right)

it seems connected by a taut line to the coughing centre. Each cough spasms the pain block and it is almost like something is readying to burst. It is possible to place this in an ignorance bubble if one is stoic enough, however its internal nature causes worry about the future, the readying mortal swell

There are other pains, but I say enough is enough.

  1. get well soon, whatever ails thee.

i don't think mr schmidt's evocation of the european hornet's sting quite does the blighter justice.

    full nasty, to be sure.

  2. european hornet's sting: "Like a matchhead that flips off and burns on your skin."

maybe you need to experience the sting of the bald-faced hornet? "Rich, hearty, slightly crunchy. Similar to getting your hand mashed in a revolving door." . . . put things in to persepctive.

Nothing has ever stung me. Not even a mosquito.

    I am getting better-ish thanks !

  3. The fire ant description at 1.2 does not reflect the lingering 24-36 hour long burn resulting from stepping on a pile in sandals.
