as everyone must know, ingmar bergman died recently. Malale doesn't see films very often but he has seen the following bergman ones:
- the seventh seal
- the silence
- winter light
- wild strawberries
(mio can add persona to that list)

Malale tended to like the closed spaces of winter light and the silence, their world being closed as the consciousnesses depicted were closed and alone as they faced final moments. It is always worrying to contemplate the death of someone who was terribly afraid of death. Perhaps by his constant facing of it in his work, in the actual event he found it quite acceptable.

Feel free to relate your comprehensive understanding of the work of bergman in the little comment spaces, and feel good about yourselves like peacocks, until you too are extinguished.

    yes. due to lack of earthquake/terror bomb/paedo-fests channel 4 news devoted a good little section to his passing incl. clips & interview. The news closed with jon snow and krishnan guru-murthy playing chess across the newsdesk in swift diminishing light.

    Twas sad. Strange that he died at a time when BBC4 was showing some of his films and programmes about him. Seventh Seal has been re-released at the cinema this summer no? Perhaps he thought he would tie it in to the retrospective. I still have not seen Seventh Seal, oddly enough, considering my film tastes. Me and Olia have been watching Kusterica films. Serbian. Highly recommend Underground - covers the history of Yugoslavia from WWII to the 90s in a brilliant way. Oh, and Black Cat White Cat - but that's funny more than anything else.

    I am off to dance around in the middle of a field / tent today - will return after the weekend. Hope you and Mio are well.
