A thing I liked and remembered

I have been taken with the following phrase from Kerouac's Vanity of Duluoz since reading it the first time, and find it appearing often in my brain thought sections.  I know it also occured in some form in one of his "spontaneous prose" instructional lists. But I like it in this form the most. Only, I don't know why.

The phrase (or is it, like, a series of sentences, isn't it):

No time for poetry. And anyway, see? No time for poetry.

Apparently it is on page 235, I don't have the book with me, amazon says it is page 235, but will not show me the page itself.

I think I like the "see?"  That is one reason.
