When a doorbell is rung nearby, after its real tone has subsided, I hear regular phantom doorbells , just at the cusp of my hearing, but definitely there (or here). After a while I wait for them (the phantom doorbells) and they appear just as soon as my mind gives up listening.
This doesn't happen with other sounds.
The real doorbell, at the actual door here, leaves me in shock, worry, and panic.
